Shantelle O
This month’s spotlight is our Support Services Manager – Shantelle!
While she has only been with NTECC since October, she brings a wealth of experience in Emergency Communications and is also the President of the Texas Chapter of APCO!
The three words she uses to describe NTECC are “diverse, resilient, and mission-driven.” She defines true leadership as “one who leads with enthusiasm, compassion, and kindness. It goes beyond simply fulfilling assigned tasks; it embodies a commitment to integrity, empathy, and initiative.”
For prospective candidates, she says, “understand the role that you are pursuing before jumping into this career. Work on honing your verbal and written communication skills as well as your ability to listen. This can be a high-stress environment – practice stress management techniques and develop coping strategies. Keep in mind this is a 24/7 operation; develop strategies to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Familiarize yourself with dispatch software, mapping systems, and communication devices used in the field. And lastly, be prepared to learn a lot in your first year on the job!”
In the next 10 years, she sees herself “knocking on the door of retirement.”
