This month’s spotlight is one of our amazing Emergency Communciations Specialists – Collin!
He has been with NTECC for about a year and a half, having previously worked as a dispatcher in San Antonio.
According to him, the most challenging part of this job is “not being able to have a traditional family lifestyle.” Meanwhile, his favorite part of the job is that “it’s intellectually rewarding with its challenges.”
The three words/phrases he uses to describe NTECC are “resilient, dependable, and complex.” According to him, true leadership is “fighting alongside your people, not leading from the front or back, but actually digging into the trenches and facing the harsh realities of your people’s struggles alongside them. Being compassionate, accommodating, and interested. Most importantly, leaders are curious and not judgmental.”
For prospective candidates, he says, “learn how to leave it on the floor; you can’t take what you’ll hear and see home with you. Creating that work mode switch is imperative to your success as a dispatcher or call taker, but it’s more important to figure out how to switch back to the true you at home.”
